We hope this newsletter finds you well! It is April in Germany and the German saying "April, April, der macht was er will!" (which means as much as: "april, april, it's doing whatever it wants to do!") holds true, like every year. While we are trying to find our groove between beautiful warm and summer-like weekends as well as rainy and wintery cold days, we are continuing to build ICSE's program around interesting and easily accessible offers for the STEM education community.
In this newsletter you find enticing online offers like our latest modules of the ICSE Academy European Workshop Series on "STEM in the digital era" and "Innovative assessment in STEM education". You can attend this event series on Tuesdays 4-6 pm until June 11. | ICSE ACADEMY EUROPEAN Workshop Series |
| |
The workshop series takes place online on Tuesdays from 4-6 pm CET until June 11.
The focus of this workshop series is bringing participants up to date in research and teaching in the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in connection with European priorities such as fostering sustainability, digital skills and intercultural learning.
Cluster 1 (tools and approaches to deal with sustainability issues in STEM education) and Cluster 2 (diversity and inclusion in STEM) are already over.
You can now register for Cluster 3 (STEM in the digital era) by April 30 and for Cluster 4 (Innovative assessment in STEM education) by May 21.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!

| Policy Round Table: Evidence based STEM teaching and Pisa results |

The 2nd online policy round table for the ICSE Academy will take place on May 13th from 11 am – 12:30 pm (CET). The theme of the round table is
evidence based STEM teaching and PISA results, and implications for gender and STEM.
The round table will be a combination of two brief presentations to introduce the topic and group discussions in break out rooms. The event is open to all policy makers from within the consortium and beyond.

| Summer School in Prague, June 26 - July 5 2024 |
| |
The focus of this STEM education summer school is bringing participants up to date in research and teaching practices in the field of the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), and refreshing and deepening the knowledge of meaningful and relevant educational practices. Topics will include inquiry-based learning and interdisciplinarity, cultural diversity and inclusion, connections to sustainable development goals (SDGs), and the use and impact of technology on STEM education. The summer school offers a blend of lectures, seminars and workshops on educational research and towards the diverse interests of student-teachers, doctoral students, teachers, teacher educators and researchers.
The goals of this summer school are an increased awareness with regards to diversity in STEM education and to values such as sustainability and inclusivity in STEM classrooms, an enrichment of thematic knowledge and practical skills, and first-hand intercultural experiences.

| teach4life: Chat GPT in Math teaching |

Our teach4life project is coming to its end right now. As one of its final events, we dedicated one of our 1h4teachers events to the topic of artifical intelligence (AI) in STEM teaching.
During the event, Dr. Straser's presentation offered profound insights into the utilization of AI in enhancing educational processes. He emphasized how AI, particularly ChatGPT, could revolutionize traditional teaching methods by providing tailored educational content and streamlining administrative tasks, thus allowing educators to focus more on teaching and less on bureaucratic tasks.
To celebrate the succesful end of the teach4life project and to give you deeper insights into the project outcomes, we will release an extra edition of our newsletter dedicated to the project this summer.

| ICSE Academy: Updates from participating countries |

| Conference Proceedings ETE IV |
| |
The ETE IV conference proceedings are now available online. The conference focused on implementing and scaling up innovative teaching approaches in STEM education with an emphasis on open schooling for sustainability education. The aim was to discuss different ways of working, the roles of teaching materials, and structures needed for innovations in STEM education. This volume reflects the main topics of discussion and the participants’ conference experiences.

"Anchan, or butterfly pea tea, is a blue, caffeine-free tea from South East Asia. The incredible color is not the only thing that makes this tea special. You will be surprised.
Make a tea from the flowers of the blue butterfly pea. Add honey and lemon juice. What can you observe?"
In this task, students are encouraged to try to explain what happened. They are asked to carry out further experiments: Can they
achieve the same effect with other ingredients?
