| Science Factory Final conference |

The European ICSE Science Factory Conference will take place on November 8-9, 2025, in Istanbul, as part of the 6th International STEM Education Conference. The conference is organized in collaboration with the International Centre for STEM Education (ICSE) and Hacettepe University as part of the ICSE Science Factory project. It will explore the intersection of sustainability, health, and digitalisation in STEM education, emphasising how emerging technologies, health-related advancements, and sustainable practices can be effectively integrated into teaching and learning. Participants will engage in discussions, workshops, and presentations that address the evolving role of STEM education in shaping a sustainable and technologically advanced future.

The ICSE Academy recently joined eTwinning, a safe and free platform for teachers and pupils across Europe to work together on projects, discuss in online groups, and develop their professional skills. The ICSE Academy offers a wide range of activity formats for professional development: job-shadowing, workshop series and summer schools, bringing together STEM teacher students, teacher educators and teachers.
The ICSE Academy TwinSpace "Lighthouse for STEM teacher education and training in Europe" is a place of inspiration for STEM teachers and teacher educators to join in the ICSE Academy activity formats for professional development.

| Using Molecular Cuisine IN STEM Education |

Molecular cuisine, with its origins in haute cuisine, has become a revolutionizing factor in the nutritional field and beyond. Based on food technology insights and tools, specific adjustments can be made to the textures, flavor dimensions, and appearance of foods. When applied in the educational sector, molecular cuisine combines culinary creativity with scientific learning and offers an exciting, interdisciplinary approach to topics such as chemistry, physics, and nutrition.
Find out how students in Germany used molecular cuisine to conduct a ICSE Science Factory open schooling project with a group of care home residents with dysphagia (sawllowing-difficulties).

| Integrating Nature-Based Solutions, school activism and citizen science into educational practice |

In February 2025, the NBS4Schools workshop in Lisbon brought together 29 passionate teachers from Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, and Germany to explore the integration of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), school activism, and citizen science into educational practices. This engaging event empowered educators with innovative ideas for addressing challenges like classroom heat and enhancing green spaces, and featured the introduction of an upcoming Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) designed to equip teachers with essential resources for fostering climate-conscious students.

| Teacher Academy in Sweden |

As part of the ICSE Academy we are currently conducting a professional development series in technology for primary and middle school teachers in Sweden. By integrating job-shadowing and practical application into this professional development series, we aim to create a sustainable model that supports teachers in delivering high-quality technology education. This initiative builds upon insights gained from the ICSE Academy project and is a collaborative effort between Jönköping University and Upptech. The structure fosters a dynamic learning environment where teachers can explore new methodologies, gain confidence in their technology instruction, and develop a professional network that encourages continued collaboration.

| Quarterly Problem: Pick’s Theorem |
| |
Determining areas of irregular shapes like countries and regions can
be complicated. However, a theorem discovered in 1899 by Austrian
mathematician Georg Alexander Pick (1859–1942) can help to get
simple and good approximations!
In this task students are asked to choose a map of a country or region and calculate its area.

Policy Brief: Enhancing STEM Education in Europe through
Tested Professional Learning Formats |

|
This Policy Brief focuses on enhancing STEM education in Europe through innovative professional learning formats developed by the ICSE Teacher Academy project. It highlights the importance of well-trained STEM educators for economic growth and innovation and addresses disparities in STEM teacher training across Europe. The brief presents our evidence-based approaches, namely Job-shadowing, our summer schools in Prague and Utrecht, and the European Workshop Series, which have been piloted to improve STEM teaching. Key findings indicate that interactive and contextually adaptable professional development formats are most effective. It also discusses challenges like language barriers and varying digital competencies and provides recommendations for scaling up these professional learning formats to ensure long-term impact.
