| European ICSE Science Factory Conference & 6th International STEM Education Conference |

On 8–9 November 2025, the European ICSE Science Factory Final Conference will take place in Istanbul, alongside the 6th International STEM Education Conference.
As the central conference of the EU-funded ICSE Science Factory project, the event will present project outcomes, share innovative practices, and foster dialogue among researchers, teacher educators, teachers, and policy stakeholders.
Organised by Hacettepe University, in collaboration with İbn Haldun University and the International Centre for STEM Education (ICSE), the conference will focus on this year’s theme: Digitalisation, Health, Sustainability. Participants can look forward to keynotes, workshops, and discussions exploring how digitalisation, health, and sustainability can be meaningfully integrated into STEM education – and how the ICSE Science Factory contributes to shaping a sustainable and technologically advanced future.

To mark Prof. Dr. Katja Maaß’s 60th birthday, we are organising the international conference Educating the Educators: Research Perspectives in STEM Education (ETE Special) in Freiburg on 9–11 June 2027.
The conference will focus on three areas: Real-World Applications in STEM Education, Diversity in STEM Education, and STEM Education in the Digital Era.
Keynote speakers will be Alan H. Schoenfeld (UC Berkeley), Gabriele Kaiser (University of Hamburg), Knut Neumann (IPN Kiel) and Michèle Artigue (Paris Diderot University).

| Looking back: Ete 2025 |

In May 2025, Limassol was the vibrant host of the fifth Educating the Educators 2025 conference, a key event in the EU co-funded ICSE Academy – proSTEM project. Organised in collaboration with the University of Nicosia and the ICSE consortium, the event brought together 121 participants from 26 countries, including STEM teachers, teacher educators, researchers, and policy makers. Under the theme “21st Century Challenges in STEM Education”, the conference offered a rich programme, featuring key note speakers, poster and oral presentations, a teachers' day and a policy round table.
A key outcome of the final Policy Round Table was a call for a European-wide framework to recognise teacher mobility experiences, underlining the systemic relevance of the project’s results.
ETE V was not only a closing event but a launchpad for future collaboration. The conference proceedings will be published open access in 2026, and many partners committed to continuing the work through new initiatives.

| ICSE Academy Wrap up |
| |
We’re celebrating the successful conclusion of the EU-funded ICSE Academy project!
Through a collaborative effort of over 90 institutions in 13 different countries, the ICSE Academy has brought together universities, schools, and policymakers in a dynamic community of practice. Over three years they conducted over 200 activities, reaching over 4500 people through job-shadowing exchanges, international summer schools and the European Workshop Series. In addition, the consortium conducted case studies to evaluate the effectiveness, accessibility, and transferability of professional learning formats across diverse European contexts.

At the Bridges Conference in Eindhoven on July 15, 2025, Rahel Brugger from the ICSE Freiburg team shared insights from the "Designing Jigsaw Lamps" project. This open schooling initiative was part of the ICSE Science Factory, melding mathematical concepts with artistic creativity. Students and adults designed a range of different symmetrical lampshades that are assembled from many identical pieces.
The conference paper describes this process, presents results and shares some insights to enable readers to create their own designs.

| Quarterly Problem: Counting bikes |

Our international series titled Quarterly Problem is coming to an end with this last ready-to-use classroom material on bicycle counters:
In some cities, bicycle counters have been installed in busy locations. These record how many bicycles have passed this location on a given day. Firstly, this is intended to raise awareness of sustainable modes of transportation and encourage people to use bicycles more. Secondly, the number of bicycles passing by is often recorded throughout the year, giving the city a reference point for the general development of transport culture over the course of the year and over the years. What factors influence the bikes counted?
